Churches celebrate RSCM Music Sunday

The power of music in worship will be celebrated later this month with the fourth annual RSCM (The Royal Music School of Church Music) Music Sunday.

Churches up and down the country and abroad will be getting involved to mark the occasion on June 23, which highlights the skills and talents of musicians within the church.

Concerts, themed services and collections in aid of RSCM charity have already been organised and it is not too late to get involved.

The charity invites churches of all denominations to hold their own RSCM Music Sunday at any date that fits their calendars

In the past, events ranging from special collections at services to choral concerts have raised anything between £30 and £1,000.

The RSCM website www.rscm.com/musicsunday offers ideas and suggested hymns, anthems, readings and prayers, for those willing to organise their own event or special collection.

In previous years, many churches have split the proceeds on a 50:50 basis between themselves and the RSCM.

Catherine Clark, Head of Development at the RSCM said: “We are always grateful to churches for their contributions to our work with church musicians.

“We appreciate the effort that churches make to support our work.”
