This role enables me to share my passion about seeing people coming to faith in Jesus Christ because their lives have been transformed by the work, words and actions of local churches as we love and serve our neighbours whoever they may be. Helping and enabling community engagement in this way is diverse and covers many areas including:

  • Identifying and equipping those responding to community needs.
  • Setting up outreach such as Messy Church, Community Cafés, WLTDO? – Who Let The Dads Out? etc.
  • Promoting partnerships with statutory agencies, local agencies and groups such as Men in Sheds, etc.
  • Social Action projects such as Winter Night Shelters, Foodbanks, Community Gardening, etc.
  • Responsible Credit and Credit Union projects.
  • Gathering and equipping volunteers who are keen to make a difference.

Caroline is also a Licensed Lay Worker and Commissioned Evangelist

Dementia Specialist Project Officer
Julia Burton-Jones

As dementia specialist project officer, I have been working 21 hours a week since May 2015 on a two-year project funded by Henry Smith’s Surplus of the Poor Clergy Fund. The main goal of the project is to explore how chaplaincy might meet the needs of people with dementia and their families, working alongside The Gift of Years at The Bible Reading Fellowship, which has pioneered Anna Chaplaincy for older people.  Working with others across the Diocese who are keen to make a difference in dementia, I am raising awareness of the needs and recruiting Dementia Friends.  Through networking, training and resourcing we are building Dementia Friendly Churches and nurturing new activities such as dementia cafés and memory friendly worship services, as well as identifying and equipping those who feel called to dementia chaplaincy roles.
