Chaplaincy - Mental Healthcare

Rev Ruth Bierbaum
Mental Healthcare Chaplain for Kent and Medway Partnership Trust

My work as a Mental Healthcare Chaplain has many different arms; training junior psychiatrists and GPs; engagement with different faiths; supporting staff and relatives to name just a few.

It’s such a joy to find so many people really eager to engage with chaplaincy, the Church and indeed God. Sometimes the people I meet take very tentative steps around the perimeters, testing me out first as to whether they think I’m worth talking to, and a little by little, if you don’t close psychological doors, those deep, often perspective-changing conversations happen.

Here is Christ reaching deep into a suffering world, bridging a gulf between Church and ordinary people.
So if I have a message for the Diocese as it lives out its new vision, I would say please remember we are here and pray for us, but also learn from us, because if you look in the right places and meet people where they are the harvest is plentiful and ripe.
