Bishop's Commendation

Bishop CommendationThe Bishop of Rochester visited Chevening (St Botolph's) Church of England Primary School on 11th January to present a Bishop’s Commendation Special Award to the pupils, staff and governors.  The school had submitted a portfolio to demonstrate how the school fosters and nurtures its distinctive Christian character through its Christian values and through the many opportunities provided for pupils to explore and develop their faith and their spirituality.

Chevening Primary School, together with Rusthall CE Primary School in Tunbridge Wells, were judged to have submitted the best portfolios for 2013.  Bishop James was treated to a tour of the school in the company of the Head and Deputy Head Girl and Boy.  Each class welcomed the Bishop and explained what they were learning.  During an act of worship, Bishop James thanked and praised the school for the many ways in which they encourage the pupils to make the most of the gifts which God has given to them, and he presented his Special Award to them.  After coffee with staff and governors, there was time for all the pupils to ask questions about being a Bishop.  As is always the case on school visits, these were wide-ranging and suitably challenging!
