Christ Church the Movie

A parish church in Chislehurst decided to give their Annual Parochial Church Meeting the Hollywood treatment this year, by producing and showing an 18-minute film documenting life in the church.

Christ Church congregation member Clare Herriot produced the film, which showed footage of the many different services, events and activities connected to the church.

Starting the filming in February, it then took a few days to edit together. She said: “I have wanted to film within the church for a while as I know video it generates a lot more engagement online, especially when the content is genuine”.

The movie was the centre-piece of the church’s Celebration Sunday event, which brought together all three congregations for a joint service at 10am to focus on thanking God for the mission and ministry of the church over the last year.

Rev Dave Johnston, Vicar of Christ Church Chislehurst said that it was the first time they had held such a service:

“Many churches now hold their APCM on a Sunday morning and I wanted the day to be as much about celebration, fellowship and worship as it was the legal aspects of the church. It seemed to be very successful and the video produced by Clare Herriot was excellent.

“The opportunity for folk to see so much of church life on film undoubtedly created a sense of excitement and we more than doubled the numbers who usually attend an APCM.”

The film will now be cropped into shorter sections to use online.
