Kent is Delicious Competition for Schools

The Kent is Delicious Cookery Competition 2015 is now open!  This fabulous food and cookery competition aims to raise children’s awareness of the quality and importance of local, seasonal produce year. Open to all Primary-school aged children in Kent, this year we’re looking for recipes for a tasty school packed lunch.
The finalist schools get to cook their recipe at the Kent County Show on Friday 10th of  July, and will receive Kent Farmers’ Market Association  vouchers to use towards creating a hamper of tasty local food.
The winners receive transport for years 3 and 4 to the popular Living Land Event 2016 held at the Kent Showground in Detling.

The closing date for entries is Friday 22nd May, 2015

Primary School Cookery Competition in association with the Diocese of Canterbuty

We are asking all Kent schools with primary aged children to submit a recipe(s) to create a packed lunch with a Kentish flavour. The recipes selected will be presented and cooked by the four finalist schools during a competition at the Kent County Agricultural Show on Friday 10th July, 2015.

All you need to know 
The packed lunch can be made from any/all of the food groups listed below, which are grown, farmed or produced in Kent: 
Dairy Fruits Grains Protein Vegetables 
How to enter 
Please submit the following for the judges’ consideration: 
A4 Recipe sheet which sets out the recipe (s) and method for creating the packed lunch 
A4 Ingredients sheet which details where the ingredients have come from and estimates their total food miles* or footsteps if they’ve come from a school garden or allotment! 
*Food miles are the distance food items travel from where they are grown to where they are eaten. 
A4 What We’ve Learned sheet which must be presented in the children’s own words 
Locality – what food is grown and produced in your area? 
Seasonality – why did you choose the ingredients? 
Process – how did you research and make your dish? 
Understanding – what have you learned from this experience? 
Photos preferably with captions, of the children’s preparations 
A4 Artwork in crayon, felt tips, pencils or paint which could be an illustration of the dish, its ingredients, the children – anything you like! 

Entry Date 
By 5.00pm via post or e-mail by Friday 22nd May 2015. All schools will be notified by Monday 12th June 2015 

The Prize 
The winning school receives funded coach travel for years 3 and 4 to attend Kent’s educational and popular Living Land Event in May 2016. For the County Show, the Diocese funds all finalist schools with two accompanying adult admissions and ensures free entry for six nominated children to attend on Friday 10th July 2015.
