Olympic Event @ St Paul’s, Northumberland Heath

OlympicSt Paul’s Lighthouse Project, which supports parents/carers of disabled or additional needs children, received funding from the Diocese for an Olympic-themed event.
After much prayer about how best to use the money, working in partnership with Bexley SNAP (supporting disabled children and their families), 32 or us headed off to Harlow, Essex, for a day crammed full of different Paralympic sporting opportunities to take part in.
The 2 paralympic sport coaches we had arranged encouraged the children to have a go, and soon everyone was having fun.  The wheelchair basketball was the most popular with many children whizzing round the court having mastered manoeuvring the chairs within minutes.  We then went out onto the track for some wheelchair racing, followed by Volleyball and Boccia.   (For the parents who were brave enough to have a go, progress was a lot slower!)
We feel very blessed to have been able to provide such a memorable day for the children, and the community engagement which the Olympic Grant enabled has been especially meaningful for the parents and support workers who accompanied us.
