Photo: A warm and joyful day at the ordinations
Two joyful ordination services took place in Rochester Cathedral on Saturday 27 June, as five deacons and six priests were ordained into the Diocese.
On a very warm and sunny day, family, friends and supporters came to witness each take the next step on their journey with God.

During each service, the ordinands were called forward to confirm that they believed they were being called to ministry. They also confirmed that they had declared their oaths to the Sovereign, the Bishop, and their belief in the 'faith which is revealed in the Holy Scriptures'.

In the Church, being made a deacon is the foundation of all ordained ministry. For most clergy, after a year, they will be ordained a priest - some may continue in ministry as distinctive deacons.
For those being priested at the weekend, they will continue their training in a parish - also known as a curacy.
During each service, the Bishop laid his hand on the head of the deacon or priest.
He then asked for God to send down the Holy Spirit to give them 'the grace and power to fulfil their ministry.'
Each deacon then received their stole - a type of scarf - which was place across the right-hand side of their body.

For the priests, their stoles, which they had received at their deaconing were adjusted to lay around their necks. The palms of their hands were also anointed with the oil of Chrism.

All of the ordinands bring a variety of talents and perspectives, adding to the diversity of our Diocese. This year's cohort includes a former police officer, conveyancer, and a teacher.
