Growth Enablers

Our Growth Enablers work in each archdeaconry to support churches as they develop their Called to Grow plans.

They officially begin work in the Diocese in November 2019

Archdeaconry of Bromley and Bexley

I’m Abi Hiscock, a working mum on a mission; I think I’ve been on this mission for a very long time now.

Baby Emily came into our lives this March; she is younger sister to Thomas, who has just started school. I have been married to Paul for 14 years.

I am a Licensed Lay minister at All Saints Parish Church, Orpington, and I’m looking forward to using my training every day as I visit churches throughout the Bromley and Bexley Archdeaconry.

My career to date has been spent working closely with and in the charitable sector, Iincluding  Heritage Lottery Fund, Charities Aid Foundation, and most recently Global Citizen.

I hope I can help refresh our thinking and attitude towards achieving impact at scale from the grassroots through our churches.

I am excited by the possibility that parish churches can plan strategically, and measure the difference they are making with the urgency and passion of being accountable to God at any moment for our impact, and reverse a trend of not achieving our potential because we serve God eternal, with all the time in the world.

Archdeaconry of Tonbridge

I'm Graham and I have recently retired after a career of 36 years in Banking, mainly in London, but I have also worked in Singapore, Manila, Melbourne and Wellington.

I am a Licensed Lay Minister at St Lawrence Bidborough. Since completing the LLM course in 2018, I have been involved in outreach in my local parish, particularly to men.

I love keeping active with cycling, swimming, golf, tennis, hiking and skiing – and watching rugby, football and cricket; I also love a pint of local real ale from Larkins or Tonbridge Brewery.

Married to Louise, we have 4 grown up children.

I am very excited about the opportunity to work as a Growth Enabler across the Tonbridge Archdeaconry.

I feel God’s hand in this as it came just as I was retiring, and is an opportunity to use my workplace skills and to build on the work I was doing in my local parish.

I passionately believe that to grow God’s church, we must intentionally reach out to our local community to show God’s love, build relationships and share our faith.

Archdeaconry of Rochester

For the past 7 years, I have been part of a small Clergy team serving the parishes of Ash, Fawkham, Hartley, Longfield and RIdley - the Rural North West Kent Group.

I know the Diocese well, having lived and worshipped here since 1997, first as a lay person and then as a member of the clergy. I have served on Diocesan Synod since 2015, and have been elected to  Bishops Council since 2016.

Before ordination, I worked in the Foreign Office, training staff in diplomatic missions around the world to help British companies trade and invest globally.

I'm a keen musician, playing several instruments, and I particularly enjoy bringing people together to participate in musical projects.

I am very excited to have been offered the role of Growth Enabler.

I'm really looking forward to working with clergy and parishes on this important strand of the Called Together vision and being part of their journey.

I hope to be able to help people in churches make connections with others in the Diocesan team who can in turn support their growth in areas as wide ranging as Communications and HR.
