Thy Kingdom Come

Resources for children, young people, and families.

As we approach the Ascension to Pentecost season the whole Church around the world turns to prayer with Thy Kingdom Come (TKC) and this year runs from 13-23rd May.

As we support the families we know and minster to, it is good to have access to some great resources. In case you have not found them yet here are some that are available and would work well with children, young people, and their families. Try the website for all the details www.thykingdomcome.global .

Children

Use the Digital Family Prayer Adventure Map to join as you pray. If you want to make it a bit more exciting, try downloading the augmented reality app on a smartphone or tablet – on both Apple and Android. The app will feature daily games and videos all delivered through innovative augmented reality! The map is now available in A4 and can be downloaded and printed at home. Or ordered from the CPO website if you prefer. It will still work with the augmented reality app, whether printed in colour or black and white.

This year the Cheeky Pandas have again got involved in TKC with an 11-part fun-filled and Bible based video series, with songs, animated stories, prayer, and interviews with special guests. The episodes focus on the daily themes of Thy Kingdom Come, including ‘Jesus’, ‘Sorry’, ‘Thanks’ & ‘Praise’. Special guests include Bear Grylls, Nicky Gumbel, Ps Agu & Sola Irukwu, Gemma Hunt, ++ Justin Welby, Steve & Charlotte Gambill, Radzi Chinyanganya, Rob Parsons, Dr Eli Gardner and Pete & Sammy Greig. These episodes are designed for use in church services, school assemblies, children’s ministries and at home within the family. For more information click here

To accompany each episode, there is a daily activity pack with crafts, games, a Bible reading and prayers. This is designed to help further engage children in the learning for each day.

There are service plans with suggestions of what you might wish to include in an All Age/Family Service that features a Cheeky Pandas episode, either online or in person. Prayer book is available from CPO for £1 (40p if purchased in bulk), as well as cute ‘Prayer bears’, as well as two downloadable booklets for praying: one for families to use at home and another for use in church.

There are creative prayer ideas as well as more simple thoughts for those families with additional needs. They suggest putting together a simple Kingdom Kit to help and guide you in prayer through Thy Kingdom Come. The kit gives you and your family different ways to pray for 5 friends and family members. For every day from Ascension (Day 1) through to Pentecost (Day 11), there is a Daily Prayer Prompt and an accompanying Activity on the given theme. As well as lifting friends and family up to God it is also a fun and engaging way to pray!

You could offer to buy kits for families, put your own together or simply pass on a few prayer suggestions you think would work in your setting.

Young people

TKC team have produced 11 video reflections, based on the daily themes of Thy Kingdom Come, from young influential Christians across different spheres of influence. There are contributions from Guvna B (Rapper and Author); Jamie Jones-Buchanan (former professional Rugby League player), Pippa Baker (Catholic Charismatic Renewal); Joshua Luke Smith (Spoken Word Artist) and Elle Limebear (Worship Leader) to name a few.

Alongside each video there is a discussion plan – designed to explore the topic in greater depth - suitable for use in schools, colleges, youth groups and at home.

Why not consider hosting a continuous virtual prayer event? It could be held for 24/1, 24/7 or 240 hours of prayer 24/10! You could connect with other groups locally from different denominations. Simply run it with your youth group, or families within your church.

There is also a digital Escape Room planned for young people. No links yet but details will be on the website soon.

Digital Prayer Journal is designed to use throughout TKC – it is aimed at adults, but some young people would find it helpful. The Prayer Journal is also available in hard copy from CPO.
