Diocese backs new Faith at Home Campaign

The Diocesan Board of Education, and the Children & Young People Team, are pleased to support The National Church’s recently launched Faith at Home campaign.

The aim is to resource and equip parishes, families and schools in the support of the spiritual care and nurture of children and young people.

Three new webpages on the Church of England website - focussed on school leaders, church leaders, and parents - collate materials from across the Church of England and external agencies.

It is expected that the material in each section will interweave and support one another, following the same themes.

The main objectives within each stream are to provide:

  • Experiences that inspire parents and families to grow in faith together in the ‘new daily normal’ of the home
  • Resources that equip children and young people to explore faith together and feel supported pastorally as part of school and church communities
  • Networks that connect school leaders, church leaders, chaplains to share great practice and build community together focused on the faith development of children and young people

Faith at Home is a national campaign that builds on the work of Growing Faith and Everyday Faith

It is still in its early stages, but more resources will be added in the future and developed with the change in family, parish & school dynamics over the coming months.

Content is already being released each week for Primary and Secondary schools, in partnership with Oak National Academy – the Government backed scheme to help support children’s education at this time of lock down.

As part of the launch, it was demonstrated how in our current circumstances, children and  young people can be brought together to celebrate with one another.

In particular, a new song has been written by Nick and Becky Drake (Worship for Everyone), that can be used with children and young people currently social distancing.

More details on how to use it as part of Thank a Teacher Day on 20 May can be found here.

Cheryl Trice, Diocesan Team Lead Adviser, Children & Young People’s Mission & Ministry Team, and Virginia Corbyn, Deputy Director of Education said: “

“We hope people find these web pages useful, and use them alongside the existing materials, guidance and support that the Education Team and the Children and Young People Team, send out regularly. Please do keep us informed about how useful the Faith at Home resources and ideas are.”
