Praying the Way

April 2017

World:

Pray for: the troubled areas of the world and for the refugee crisis, pray for wisdom for international governments to try to find a solution;  Africa and especially the four nations of Yeman, South Sudan, Somalia and Nigeria where there is extreme famine and facing a humanitarian disaster not seen since the ending the last World War; that aid will be realised and for a cease in the wars that is causing so much hardship; for good rains.

Our country:

Pray for: around our nation that all the churches will answer the call to pray ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ prayer initiative led by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in the week leading up to Pentecost; the Lord to break through into our Land and ‘Thy Kingdom Come’; continued wisdom for the Government in this unsettled time with the triggering of Article 50 for Brexit that they will seek the justice and truth and the common good for our country.

Diocese:

Pray for: all the services in our Diocese during Holy Week and over Easter that we will share the good news of Christ’s death and joyous resurrection; all APCM’s that the people of God’s choosing will be elected to serve as Wardens, PCC and Deanery Synod members; all those parishes in interregnum that the right person will be found and for wisdom and discernment for those in all the selection processes; Bishop James, our Archdeacons and our senior clergy in their roles in serving our diocese.

Pray for: Kim Curle, newly appointed Families Missioner, serving in this parish and that of The Annunciation Chislehurst; for our Patronal Festival celebrations on 23 April.

Chislehurst Christ Church

Pray for:  wisdom and guidance as we shortlist and interview for a new Families and Children’s Worker; for our Life Groups studying Mark’s Gospel during Lent; for all the mission opportunities of the Easter season.

Give thanks: for the ministry of Kim Curle, the Families Missioner whom we share with St George, Bickley and for our recently formed House Group.

Pray for: Kim as she develops her work with children and families in this area; for deepening of faith among those who attend our House Group; for God’s blessing on our congregation as we enter Passiontide, Holy Week and Easter.

Pray for: all newly elected members of the Deanery Synod.

Bexleyheath Christ Church

Pray for: outreach via our concert and lunch on 5 April; for Churches Together Walk of Witness on Good Friday.

Bostall Heath

Pray for: those newly confirmed in February; for the work of the PCC; for outreach through the Coffee Afternoon and Open Breakfast.

Orpington Deanery

Pray for: the Orpington Churches Together Walk of Witness in the centre of Orpington on Good Friday; refreshment and renewal for Orpington school staff and students during the holidays; a blessing on all that we do in our churches and community.

Orpington All Saints

Pray for: our Holy Week and Easter services that they may deepen the faith of all who attend.

Sidcup Deanery

Footscray with North Cray

Pray: that having our church open more often over the Easter period will provide increased opportunities for us to engage with the local community and share the good news of Christ’s death and resurrection.

Sidcup Christ Church.

Pray for: good follow up from the Mission Weekend with the evangelist Tico Rice; for tangible progress on building our West Wing church annexe.

Sidcup St John the Evangelist

Pray for: closer engagement with children and families.

ROCHESTER ARCHDEACONRY

Cobham Deanery

Pray for: our Deanery 24/7 Prayer Room at St Mary’s Church Rooms, Sole Street, from 25 May - 4June. This is part of the 24/7 prayer initiative requested by the two Archbishops, Justin and Sentamu and called ‘Thy Kingdom Come’.

Rural North West Kent Group Ministry

Give thanks: for opportunities to worship together in Holy Week.

Pray for: those leading our Messy Good Friday Project; our Group Council and Clergy as we develop a framework for how best to share in mission and ministry; those leading the Diocesan Lent Courses across the Group; our group services and activities during Holy Week, especially the performance of Stainer’s Crucifixion’ on Maundy Thursday and for the two Group services on Good Friday and for those leading and participating in them; us all as we get used to our new service pattern; a good send off for Jim as he prepares for his study leave.

Ash with Ridley

Give thanks: for all who have served as church wardens and pray for those standing for election that they will be spiritual as well as practical leaders for the people of our parish; for all who have served on our PCCs and pray for the Annual Meetings this month as we elect representatives for the coming year.

Pray for: the ongoing management of the Kitchen and Toilet projects at both churches, that architects and contractors may work well with both church (DAC) and Local Authority (Sevenoaks) planning; all who have family or friends at rest in our churchyards that they may trust in God and find peace in their bereavement.

Cobham with Luddesdowne and Dode

Pray for: a new treasurer for Luddesdowne, an independent examiner for Cobham, new Church Wardens for both churches; the leadership teams as they think and pray about the way forward and the church as a whole as they embrace change.

Fawkham and Hartley

Pray for: Eastertime – for our Holy Week services, our Good Friday Project and our work together as the RNWK Group, that we be a real witness to those who know so little of the Easter Story; those on school holidays for rest and refreshment; our APCM and those being appointed to PCC and Deanery Synod; those being baptised and married this month; our St George’s Day service and the work of our Uniformed Groups locally.

Istead Rise

Give thanks: for the new people who have started attending since Christmas; for our new strategy for our worship services.

Pray for: our current sermon series on God’s People in Transition; the formation of a new Leadership team; that Jesus would continue to transform our lives by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Longfield

Pray for: our APCM and Parish Curry on Palm Sunday, a new warden and PCC members; the uniformed organizations renewing their vows are our St George’s Day Parade service; rest and refreshment for all those who will be on holiday either during or after the Easter weekend.

Meopham with Nurstead

Pray for: our Annual Meeting this month and especially for people to be willing to stand as churchwardens as St Mildred’s; that during the Easter season God’s people here at Meopham with Nurstead will know afresh the hope and joy in faith in Jesus Christ and that each one will grow in enthusiasm and passion for joining in with where God is at work in our parishes.

Southfleet

Give thanks: for the constant witness of Bean Church over the past 27 years, for all who have attended over the many years, remembering old friends no longer with us.

Pray for: those who will be attending the Lent Course and Easter services that they may discern God’s will from what they hear; those involved in supporting the sick in and around the parish especially Don and Betty, for their love and care.

Dartford Deanery

Pray for: all our services over Holy Week and Easter that the good news of the Risen Lord Jesus will bring life and joy to all; all our churches APCMs this month that the people of God’s choosing will stand for the roles of Churchwardens and on the PCC and Deanery Synod; all our churches that are in an interregnum that the right person will be appointed to become the incumbent; our Rural Dean Rev Kenneth Clark and all who are helping to run these churches.

Crockenhill

Pray for: any who are vulnerable, lonely or in need and are struggling to find God in their situations; the plans God has for us this year that we may be bold and confident and become a people of hope here.

Darent Valley

Give thanks: for the visiting preachers and team of lay readers who lead us in enjoyable and inspiring worship.

Pray: that God’ guidance will be given to those involved in the preparation of the Parish Profile.

Dartford Christ Church

Give thanks: for the good teaching given on the prophecy-training day and for those that attended from a number of different churches, that God will help us all to put into practice what we are learning.

Pray for: God’s blessing on all those who attend and take part in leading the Easter services and the various activities arranged during April and May, that through these  the Lord may help us to grow in our faith, our love for God and service to others.

Dartford Holy Trinity

Pray for: a blessing on all that God is doing in our church and community.

Dartford St Alban

Pray for: the success of planned events through the year and for God’s many blessings.

Dartford St Edmund

Pray for: the future of St Edmund’s and St Alban’s as we come to work together with one Priest in Charge; all those priests who come to take our Sunday services; the priest who answers the call.

Pray for: all our fund-raising events for our new Church Room, that many will attend and there will be a good time of fellowship in our community.

Swanley St Mary the Virgin

Pray for: a blessing on all that God is doing here.

Pray for: the continued work on the building project and the vicarage that it will go smoothly; those running the church in our interregnum and for the right person to be called to serve here.

Pray for: the newly commissioned Schools Pastors and Street Pastors; new people to sign up to become pastors.

Give thanks; for the funds already raised towards the repair of our roof and that God will provide all our needs.

Pray for: the Pastoral Team as they reach our community through our weekly Community Café, visits to Care Homes and other activities; that lives will be changed through their ministry.

Give thanks: to God for new life through his Son Jesus.

Pray for: our young folk being admitted to Holy Communion on 2 April.

Pray for:  a generous response to Macmillan Cancer Care our Lent Charity; the ongoing maintenance project of the church building.

Give thanks: for the season of Holy Week and Easter, praying we may all appreciate more deeply all that Jesus suffered and achieved on our behalf; for the children and young people who belong to our church family and pray that they grow in faith and in body and that some may come to the Maundy Thursday evening event which will include a showing of the film ‘The Miracle Maker’; for God’s financial provision over the past year as we meet for our APCP on 30 April and for Chris Saunders, our new treasurer.

Pray for: good repairs to the Rose Window, for safety for the men working high up and that the work will be completed before the first wedding on 1 May; services on Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Day, for worship and the preaching; that people will set aside from their busy lives for this foundationally important time of the year; wisdom for us as to how to respond to the challenge of young children coming to church on Sunday mornings or being picked for local sporting  opportunities and for the open meeting on 22 April to consider how God may be calling us to meet the needs of our church families; wisdom as new people are elected to serve on the PCC

Pray for: our preparations for our 175th Anniversary in July; for all our outreach initiatives, for God’s guidance and support of our regular congregation.

Pray for: The Edenbridge Churches in Covenant that together they may provide a united outreach and witness to the Lord; God’s blessing as several youngsters with leaders leave the parish this Easter weekend to ‘Rebuild Mexico’; our parish as Father Stephen commences his sabbatical at the end of the month.
