Praying the Way

March 2017

World:

Pray for: peace between nations; all enduring torture and persecution for their faith and for all suffering starvation due to drought or floods causing crops to fail and death of animals; all refugees and the homeless; those countries, like France, Germany and the Netherlands having general elections this year and others who have had new heads of government in the last year such as Britain, USA and Italy..

Our country:

Pray for: the working out of Brexit with new basis of relationships with other countries; all those sleeping rough; those churches catering for rough sleepers during the winter months; those finding it hard to manage and those who use foodbanks; the NHS and all who work in it, for increased funding and wisdom to know where that should come from; those working and those living in nursing and care homes and those waiting for appropriate places of help.

Diocese:

Pray for: Bishop James for full healing of his shoulder (skiing injuries);  Rachel Phillips, the new Canon for Mission and Growth, including work with visitors, schools and wider community;  Matthew Rushton, Canon Precentor as from 25 March; preparations for the visit of the Archbishop of Canterbury to the diocese from 17-19 July.

Orpington, All Saints

Pray for:  a holy and blessed Lent;  our services of the Stations of the Cross, our Lent groups, which will follow the diocesan course ‘Place in the Crowd’, the Quiet Day led by Canon Gordon Oliver and the meditative service for the Mothers’ Union Branch;  the work of the Children’s Society;  Louise Paine Davey, who  will speak to the Sunday congregation on the 5 March; our monthly charity lunches – in March raising funds for Cancer Research; the discussions about a Parish Mission Action Plan; our uniformed organisations who will attend Parade Service on Mothering Sunday; Blenheim School, who will attend an Easter Service on 28 March before the end of the school term.

Sidcup Deanery

Pray for: our Lent lectures on 16, 23 and 30 March

Pray for: our home groups and developing co-operation with All Saints Foots Cray.

Cobham Deanery

Pray for: our Chapter residential 27-28 March; the Deanery Prayer group meeting on 13 March from 7.45-9.00pm

Rural North West Kent Group

Give thanks:  for the official formation of the Group

Pray for:  us all as we introduce a new pattern of Sunday worship across the group from March, particularly giving thanks for and praying for our Lay Ministers who will be taking on more leadership roles; good encounters as our Group engages with ‘Our Conversation, Our Future’ and follows the diocesan Lent course.

Cobham with Luddesdowne and Dode

Pray for: a new treasurer at Luddesdowne within or outside the parish to help us for a year; for new Church Wardens at Cobham and Luddesdowne to come alongside Janet and Jane; for planning for Archbishop Justin’s initiative ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ which runs 24/7 from 25 May to 4 June and for Angela who is responsible for organising the Cobham Deanery in St Mary’s Church Rooms, Sole Street.

Longfield

Pray for: our Wardens, Wendy and Paul, giving thanks for their leadership of various fabric projects; all those who run shops, large and small, in Longfield and for all who travel to the village to do their shopping; the first Parade service of the year on Mothering Sunday.

Meopham with Nurstead

Give thanks: for the opportunities our two churches have to meet together throughout Lent to engage reflectively with the Our Conversation:  Our Future.

Pray for:  God’s blessing on all the deanery clergy and lay ministers, and others who take responsibility for nurturing those newly committed to Him; the Lord’s blessing on Faith Gordon, our Church Mission Society link partner in Recife, Brazil, as she strives to master Portuguese while serving in her local church; our local care homes, where a number of our faithful members are now residing, and give thanks that we are welcomed to take communion services and Bible studies for all who wish to join us.

Rochester Deanery

Chatham St Mary and St John

Pray for: the team who are organising and overseeing the renovations of St John's, and for all those who will be working on the site in the coming months.

Chatham St Stephen

Give thanks: for the new direction Messy Church has taken, and pray that the new plans will serve the parish effectively. 

Pray for: God’s guidance on the maintenance of the church and fresh thinking on how we develop and maintain the building.

Luton

Give thanks: for the faithful service of Rev David Sutton; for Gary Colville our Interim Minister. 

Pray for: God’s help and guidance through the next two years as we work on rebuilding the outreach of Christ Church into the community.

Dartford Deanery

Give thanks:  that the Anna Chaplaincy is progressing and pray for the launch of the Dementia Friendly Church Café on the second Tuesday morning of the month at St Edmund’s church.   Pray that it will be the start of continuing links with care homes, carers and organisations that support those with dementia.

Pray for: our Rural Dean, Rev Kenneth Clark, and all those who will be supporting the parishes who are in an interregnum; that the right people will be found to become the new incumbents and for wisdom and equipping for all those running the churches in the meantime; all the plans and preparations for our Lent Study Groups and for the services over the Easter period; Mothering Sunday, for all who celebrate motherhood and especially for those who find that day very difficult, giving thanks for our mothers, both natural and spiritual; all Women’s World Day of Prayer services in our area on 3 March as we join with millions praying across the world.

Crockenhill

Pray: that the Community Church room will progress

Darent Valley

Pray: that work carried out on St Mary the Virgin will be completed on time;  for funding needed to repair the roof and heating equipment for St John the Baptist.

Dartford Christ Church

Give thanks:  for the training day on prophetic ministry, that those who attended will move into their giftings;

Pray for:  all that we are doing in our parish, that we will be guided by God and do his will.

Dartford Holy Trinity

Pray for:  God’s blessing on all that he is doing in the church and the community in which we serve.

Dartford St Alban

Pray:  that a Vicar will be called to serve at St. Alban’s, for those who have served faithfully over the years but cannot now attend, that their prayers will make a difference.

Dartford St Edmund

Pray for: our church during the interregnum and that the right person will be appointed Vicar.

Stone

Pray for: ‘Families @4’, our new afternoon event on the fourth Sunday of each month beginning on 26 March, Mothering Sunday.

Swanley St Mary the Virgin

Pray for:  God’s blessing on all that he is doing in the church and the community in which we serve.

Swanley St Paul and Hextable St Peter

Pray for: all running the church, for wisdom and God’s guidance in the writing of the parish profile; guidance and discernment with development of the pastoral care team and for our Life groups.

Wilmington

Pray for:  Encounter! Youth Club for 11-18 year olds on Thursday evenings and the new young adult group (18-25yrs) meeting on Sundays; Messy Church and Film Club night and for the success of our social and fund-raising events.

Gravesend Deanery

Give thanks: for mothers, for our own and for those who have been like a mother to us.   Bless them and our memories too.

Give thanks: and praise for the lengthening days, for the promise of Spring to lighten our hearts as we reflect on God’s wonderful creation all around us.

Pray for: a blessed and holy Lent; Lent groups meeting in our deanery, that they may use this time to grow closer to God; events and services marking Pocahontas 400;  Rev Chris Stone and those involved at St George’s Church in Gravesend; the NHS and for hospitals, nursing homes and hospices;  those who care for young and old and for the pressures which they work under.   relatives and friends of the sick that their worries and concerns may be calmed; nurseries, play groups, toddler groups and schools, all under pressure from rising numbers and inadequate facilities; staff, governors, parents and carers.  Bless all those who suffer, that they may know God’s gentle presence and healing grace.

Pray for: our world, so much in need of God’s peace; our country and for all those who govern.

TONBRIDGE ARCHDEACONRY

Malling Deanery

Aylesford

Pray for: young people and leaders of Bible Bats group, who are studying their faith in this world of material pressures.

Coxheath, East Farleigh, Hunton, Linton and West Farleigh

Pray for:  good uptake of the diocesan Lent course and that positive things may come out of it; dwindling congregations with very large old churches to keep up, that the Holy Spirit may move in their communities, revive the Church of God and extend his kingdom here.

Snodland with Lower Birling

Pray:  that people will come to our morning and evening Lent courses and that those leading will also be blessed; for our dais to be allowed to go ahead giving access to the altar for those disabled.

Paddock Wood Deanery

Pray: as APCMs approach, that all Deanery Synod and PCC vacant posts will be filled.

Horsmonden

Pray: as the advert goes out for a new Vicar, that there will be a good response.

Pray for: the patients, staff and their Chaplain, the Rev Lisa Waller.

Pray for all Lent groups, that they may be a great blessing to all.

Kippington St Mary

Give thanks: for our ‘Kippington Lunch Club’ lunch on 1 March, for the fellowship this provides and pray God may use it to deepen faith and companionship; for the families who are part of St Mary’s and pray for leaders working with children and young people, as we meet for breakfast at the Vicarage on 4 March, followed by planning together; for a very ‘rich’ time shared together for those who went on the church weekend at the end of January.  We pray for the right speaker for the next one in September 2018.

Pray for: our walk with God to be enriched in the coming weeks of Lent, whether through reading, prayer or meeting with others; our children and young people, some of whom face the choice of sport or church on Sunday mornings and for us as we seek to respond to their needs; a special vision-gathering we have planned as a church on 22 April to seek God’s purposes and plans for us; safety as scaffolding goes up on the West end of our church on 16 March, for essential repairs to the Rose window and that the work will be completed before the first wedding of the year on 6 May; David Kitley as he leads an assembly at Lady Boswell School on 21 March on the theme of ‘Nelson Mandela’; for Solefield School’s end of term Easter service on 22 March.

Knockholt with Halstead

Pray for: those responsible for enabling the parishes to continue their ministry during the interregnum; baptisms, weddings and funerals and regular services being maintained; the church members participating in the interview panel to select a new Rector; blessings on the Lent course starting at St Margaret’s on 7 March.

Seal St Lawrence and Underriver

Pray for: our Churchwardens and lay ministers during the interregnum and for guidance for those involved in the selection of a new incumbent.

Sevenoaks St Nicholas

Give thanks:  for the new cloisters extension at St Mary’s Stansted and the way it is being used.

Pray for:  our outreach and for a permanent building for Vigo church.

Pray for: the Women’s World Day of Prayer service at 10.30 am on the 3 March;  all attending the Lent Course and for our on-going fundraising efforts to repair our beautiful Norman and Beard church organ;  our on-going plans to install a disabled toilet in our church hall.
