The purpose of this workstream
To counter the decline in children and youth attendance by resourcing leaders, apprenticeships, resource hubs and school engagement, nurturing faith in the next generation.
The money awarded for this work
The National Church’s Strategic Mission and Ministry Investment Board (SMMIB) has awarded £1.51m for this area of work.
What it will enable
- Three Resource Hubs, one based in a parish in each archdeaconry, that will share best practice around church engagement with schools, and deliver training and learning events for neighbouring parishes so all can benefit.
-
A Community Schools Engagement Adviser to help parishes build missional relationships with schools.
-
Apprenticeship scheme (from 2027) for young adults to gain parish experience and theological training
-
Training courses, including Children’s Ministry Essentials and Youthscape Essentials, providing structured teaching on theology, child/youth development, safeguarding, and practical tools for ministry
-
Catalyst, a locally delivered leadership training scheme, accredited by Ridley Theological College, to help volunteers and emerging leaders explore their calling and develop skills for leading groups, worship, or new initiatives.
The difference it will make locally
-
Parents, volunteers, and congregations will be resourced for Children, Young People and Families ministry.
-
Young adults will be trained for ministry through apprenticeships, and existing leaders will be better equipped through enhanced learning pathways.
-
More children and families engaging with church, encountering the gospel, and growing in faith.
