First and foremost your clergy house is you and your family's home. Our aim is to ensure it is maintained to the best standard possible.
The Surveyor Team is here to help and assist you with matters relating to your clergy house, so please do not hesitate to contact them if you have anything you need to discuss with them about your home.
On this page we cover:
The Surveyor's Department is responsible for the care of parsonages and other properties under the Repair of Benefice Buildings Measure 1972, which includes quinquennial building surveys and arranging for repair or improvement by contract or by order and to supervise and administer such works of repair or improvement.
Also, as part of the Church Repair Fund (CRF), they are responsible for the quinquennial building surveys of staff/curate houses and church halls. Their care extends to be wholly responsible for capital improvement schemes to parsonages and staff houses and for some new build projects. The team manages and maintain an ordering system, and a 10-year programme for repairs/maintenance of parsonages, and monitor and control the annual budget.
The surveyors will visit incumbents and/or occupiers in connection with buildings, to investigate and diagnose defects, and to process day-to-day maintenance enquiries and minor repairs.
Every house is subject to a detailed survey every five years by the Diocesan Surveyor. A copy of the report is sent to the incumbent.
The Diocesan Surveyor will seek tenders for the repairs detailed in the report and will arrange for the work to be carried out. If you wish any local contractors to be included in the tendering process, please advise the Diocesan Surveyor.
You can make representations to the Clergy Houses Committee (which is accountable to the Finance Committee) you feel the Diocesan Surveyor's report does not cover all the repairs considered necessary.
If you have an emergency with your house please view this list of emergency contacts.
You can find more information about clergy housing in the Housing section of the Bishop's Guidelines. If you can't find the information you need, please don't hesitate to contact the team.
