The Lead Community Engagement and Social Action Adviser (CESA) is here to help you and your church welcome and support people with the many different needs facing society today.

From community cafes to foodbanks, they can walk alongside you to establish outreach that reflects the love of Jesus through whole person care, for the common good and to bring about justice in our society.

This short film from Bibleproject.com explains more about the biblical theme of justice and how deeply rooted it is in the story-line of the Bible that leads to Jesus, and our Christian faith.

We also have some specific officers who can help with ministry and outreach to older people, sport, as well as awareness raising on key matters of social justice.

Understanding your local community

One of the first steps you will want to undertake before you embark on a new form of outreach is to understand your community and their needs.

There are a number of resources available to help you build a picture of your community.

• Church Urban Fund (CUF) - Look Up Tool - Do you really know how many children go hungry, the number of families who can’t pay their bills, or how many of your elderly parishioners sit alone too worried to turn on the heating in your parish
  
  Enter your Church of England parish into the Look Up Tool and get a clear picture of poverty in your community

• Census and Statistics for Mission data - The Church of England has mapped data from the Census and government statistics onto parish boundaries to produce parish-level census and deprivation information.
