Dial a service

The embracing of 'online church' by so many has been a fantastic achievement.

A number of churches have been in touch to tell us about some of the things they're offering to those who might not find it so easy to access online content.

St Mary's Church in West Malling is one of those offering ‘Dial-a-Sermon’.

Using a service called Twilio, people can hear a recorded sermon or prayers, by calling a phone number set up by the church.

Vicar David Green, says that he found the set up instructions quite easy and that it will cost the parish about 80p month.

They've already had a lot of positive feedback.

Pip n Jims Church, Walderslade has similarly been offering a weekly pre-recorded talk from their reader - find it here

They've also been doing 'calling circles' for pastoral care. One person calls a group of around 10 people each day or two to check-up, encourage and pray with them on the phone.

Then every couple of weeks, the links are swapped around within the circle. Only people who have given the necessary permission on the church database are contacted.

St John's Church, Eden Park in Beckenham is another church who have been using a landline number to connect with members of the congregation.

This is to name just a few, but there are lots of churches offering many initiatives to stay connected with their communities - both on and offline.

If you're a church, it can seem overwhelming, but the important this is to offer what is right for your community, and what is managable and sustainable for you.
