Following a comprehensive and in-depth interview process, with several highly able candidates, Bishop Simon Burton-Jones, the Bishop of Tonbridge and Chair of the Diocesan Board of Education, is delighted to announced that the new Rochester Diocesan Director of Education will be Mrs Gemma Hitch.
Gemma is currently acting Director of Education and will continue in this role until she is able to formally take up the role of Director of Education from October 27, 2025.
In welcoming Gemma, Bishop Simon said:
"Gemma brings a wealth of experience both from her time as a primary school teacher and primary head teacher and in her role these last two years in the Diocesan Board of Education.
"Her energy, faith and vision for this role are palpable and will be a source of wise advice and kind support to those who call upon her and the services of the Board."
He added:
"This outcome means, naturally, that we will need to appoint a new Deputy Director of Education and we will move to do this as soon as we are able."
Speaking of her new role, Gemma says:
"I am deeply passionate about the incredible work that church schools do within our diocese, and I am thrilled to have been offered this role.
"I look forward to building on the work I have done as deputy, walking alongside you as we work together for the flourishing of your school communities."
