As a Diocese we enjoy flourishing overseas links with the Anglican dioceses of Harare in Zimbabwe, and Kondoa and Mpwapwa in Tanzania, and an ecumenical friendship with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Estonia.
These mutually beneficial links are an affirmation that Christians from different cultures and backgrounds share a common heritage of faith and worship.
Reflecting on the joy and growth of these links, the Rev Christine Allen, Overseas Links Coordinator says it is like the parable of the Mustard Seed told by Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew:
"In 2004 Rochester Diocese planted those first seeds with our overseas Diocese in Africa. Today, after 20 years, that mustard seed has grown in a beautiful tree with strong links in Harare in Zimbabwe , Kondoa and Mpwapwa in Tanzania and Estonia.
"Over the years, friendships have grown, and many projects have strengthened our faith in Jesus. For those who have visited these places many have returned full of joy and praise for the resilience of our brothers and sisters in Christ .
To celebrate this vital part of our diocesan family and life, all are invited to the Overseas Link Celebration service, which this year will take place on Saturday 2 November, St Stephen’s Church, Tonbridge, at 6.30pm.
At the celebration service, Bishop Jonathan will be joined by the Rt Rev Luzineth Kingamkono, Bishop of Mpwapwa Diocese, Tanzania, and the Rt Rev Dr Given Gaula Bishop of Kondoa Diocese, Tanzania. Christine says:
"We are privileged to have both Bishops from Tanzania to thank God for that wonderful mustard seed that has now grown into a tree.
Please note: Light refreshments will be served after the service.
