Bishop Simon visited the offices of the charity Protection Against Stalking (PAS) in June.
As a Kent-based charity with a national reach, PAS works within communities to raise public awareness about stalking. They also support victims of stalking and their families by providing specialist support.
The visit followed a training session Co-CEOs, Sue Dunn and Jan Berry recently ran for the Diocese, aimed initially at clergy and senior diocesan leaders, to build awareness of the issue and to learn how to spot the signs.
Speaking about their engagement with the Diocese, Jan says:
“PAS welcomes the opportunity to work with the Diocese to raise awareness of stalking and the support we provide to such vulnerable victims.
We know early identification of stalking behaviours and effective intervention saves lives.”
During his visit, Bishop Simon met the small but dedicated team of volunteers and paid staff who support victims and survivors of stalking across Kent and learned more about the extent of the problem, and the importance of early intervention.
Speaking about the impact of their work, Bishop Simon said:
"PAS has a small team with a complex, lengthening case load of vulnerable, often frightened people. Their key qualities of kindness, determination and professionalism are just the mix you need when you feel your life is spiralling out of control and you need something – someone – to hold on to.
We are so grateful for their work, not least with the churches."
