Director of Music and Organist at St Mark, Bromley
Parish Name:
St Mark, Bromley
Area:
Bromley and Belxley Archdeaconry
Applications Deadline:
29/11/2024
Other Information:
St Mark’s is an open and inclusive Church of England parish church with a very strong choral tradition and a reputation for musical excellence built up over many years. The current choir is a traditional unit of soprano, alto, tenor, and bass voices with adults and young people, including choral scholars. The choir is renowned locally, in the Diocese of Rochester, and in cathedrals across the country, for its high standard of choral music.
The choir sings a Sung Eucharist every Sunday morning and Choral Evensong once per month, during term time, with extra Choral Services for Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Advent and Christmas.
The choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and choristers enjoy development and training with the Voice for Life ribbon scheme. The musical life of the church is historically long established and valued as part of the liturgy and the worshipping life of the community, and the church is blessed with excellent acoustics and a superb and well maintained 3-manual Hunter organ (1910) rebuilt by Rushworth & Dreaper, and a grand piano.
St Mark’s is seeking to appoint a new Director of Music who is an inspirational, confident conductor and an accomplished organist, who has a high level of knowledge of, and a natural sympathy for, the choral tradition and liturgy of the Church of England. He /she should have experience of working with children and young adults, particularly in a choir, and be able to inspire and encourage new members and develop the talents of choristers, including choral scholars.
St Mark’s seeks to foster a positive and open culture, in which the choir is well-integrated into the wider life of the church community. Our new Director of Music will continue to work alongside the incumbent, other clergy and ministers, our churchwardens and the PCC, in connecting the music, liturgy, choir and congregation, and in furthering the wider mission and ministry of the church.
